the homeless are still homeless. the numbers are the same. the reasons are the same. the faces are on different people but they're the same. people are still dying. children are still going hungry. men and women are still freezing during the winter, searching for relief in the summer heat and struggling to survive daily. there has been no real relief. the problem fluctuates with minor gains and improvements in one city while it is negated by setbacks and escalated problems in another city.
while this is happening the agencies go along happily declaring we're making progress and the answer is around the corner. a newly named program begins and another ten year plan begins. the bloggers and op-ed writers continue on with their writings dissecting the homeless and different stories about them, both good and bad. they're stories we've seen before, just a different face on a differently named person.
i'm tired and I know the homeless are tired. I see it daily. for the most part they are unaware ot the stories the headlines, the programs, the bloggers and the constant stationary movement of the agencies. they're trying to survive the day. they're struggling for food, water and a temporary respite from their own weariness.
I hope tomorrow I don't wake up tired again. I hope I see a new headline or hear of a new program. i'd like to wake up and not see anyone homeless and tired.
see you around town
