for almost a year now i've been doing research on the homeless and those living in poverty...or the closest thing we have to it in america. after thinking about it extensively, i decided that the only way i was truly going to understand the homeless, what it was like to be homeless, and the struggles they face daily was to actually become homeless. it was a very hard decision to make and an even harder one to implement. it's very disconcerting living among the homeless initially. i almost cancelled the project the first two nites. but, after settling in and becoming less rattled, i talked it over with someone who was familiar with what i was doing and decided to carry on.
the twitter and social media part of it came along by accident. when i was researching on the homeless one day at the resource center i realized that there were indeed homeless people using twitter, social media and other internet communications. so i decided to look into it and see exactly what was happening and who these homeless people were. then i realized there were more than homeless people tweeting their adventures. not only were there homeless people utilizing twitter and facebook to communicate and not be isolated but there were also advocates, homeless agencies and other organizations utilizing social media to bring awareness and knowledge and information about homelessness to people who would otherwise not know. so i started tweeting. and tweeting. then along came the blog. i do wish it could have been abit larger and had more readers. it could have been interesting to see if i could have made an impact.
but like all things not real, this had to eventually come to a close. because of the time frame on writing the book and to be honest the weariness of being homeless....i have to close this research now and admit to my perpetration. i apologize to anyone whom i've offended but i felt it was needed to get a real and up close view of the homeless.
and now it's time to go. thank you....and again i apologize.
see you around town
<btw....april fools day is today...so, you know>
