we are all just that average person. pain, suffering and injustice can come to any of us. sudden financial losses, family problems, loss of relationships, deaths, accidents, addictions and other problems that only average people suffer, can happen to any of us at any time. we are human beings. homelessness can happen to any of us. as far fetched and as ludicrous as that may sound to you at the moment, it can happen....to you, the average person. it can happen very quickly and from directions that you least expect. homelessness may not be multi-faceted, layered or complicated as some homeless agencies like to dissect it. but when it happens to you, it may seem like it fits all of those descriptions and more that you can't put words to. you can lose everything in what seems like a flash and find yourself with noone to turn to, no place to go and no way to avoid the train that is rushing toward you.
now here's the paradox in this. while we are all just average in the end, we are all special and we are all not exactly alike. we are unique. we are human beings. in all of history there never has nor will there ever be a person exactly like me or exactly like you. we have feelings, thoughts, ideas and beliefs that noone has ever had before. you all have a unique dignity. of all the people God could have chosen to create in place of you or in place of me, he chose to create us. having gone to some length to say that we are all average and special at the same time, my point is this. don't judge the poor and particularly don't judge the homeless. but for that same god that created you and i, go you and i.
it could happen to each of us or any of us. because of that, it should be up to each of us and all of us to do everything within our power to assist and aid the homeless in their darkest hours. it is up to each of us and all of us to put forth our best effort, collectively, to end this blight on our country and all of our "average yet special" citizens.
it's true we are all average. but being special at the same time, we should put forth that special effort that each of us are capable of and end homelessness. end it soon.
see you around town
